Buttock lift

Correction of loose skin and sagging soft tissue around the buttocks.

A lift addresses excess and sagging tissue rather than simply adding volume. Incision placement and possible combination with other techniques should be discussed in advance.

01 / Reasons to consider surgery

What patients ask about

  • Sagging after weight lossThe weight has stabilised but the skin has not tightened with the change in volume.
  • Loose skin and foldsThe surgeon assesses the amount and quality of skin and the position of folds.
  • Asymmetry or injuryEach side may need separate markings and a plan for volume correction.
02 / Options and limitations

What shapes the treatment plan

A lift does not treat muscle atrophy or guarantee an unchanged lifelong result. Major changes in weight can change the contour again.

If more volume is desired, implants or fat transfer are separate procedures with additional risks.

03 / Preparation and technique

Skin removal and tissue lifting

Depending on the area of sagging, marking identifies excess tissue above the buttocks or along the crease beneath them. Excision planning considers the future scar and tension during movement. Adding volume with fat or implants is a separate decision.

After removing excess tissue, the surgeon raises sagging soft tissue and secures it with sutures. The operation repositions tissue; it does not treat gluteal muscle atrophy.

04 / Contraindications and risks

When surgery is postponed or the plan changes

The assessment covers clotting disorders, diabetes, cancer history, active chronic disease, infection or inflamed skin, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. An active problem at the planned incision must be treated first. Skin condition and previous scars affect the plan.

Bleeding, fluid collection, infection, healing problems, altered sensation, asymmetry, visible scars, and recurrent sagging are possible.

05 / Recovery

Scar care after a buttock lift

The team explains wound care, body position, and compression. Early bruising and swelling do not show the final contour.

Return to work, unrestricted sitting, and sport depends on the size of the lift; next-day recovery should not be promised.

Your surgeon's personal instructions take priority over general information on this site. Seek medical help immediately for severe pain, shortness of breath or a sudden deterioration.

Questions and answers

Questions to discuss

Does a buttock lift add volume?

Its main goal is to raise tissue and remove excess skin. If more volume is also desired, implants or fat transfer are discussed as a separate part of the plan.

Where is a buttock-lift incision placed?

It may sit above the buttocks or along the crease beneath them. Its position depends on the location of sagging and the amount of tissue removed.

Can sagging return after a buttock lift?

Tissue changes over time. Major weight fluctuations and changes in skin elasticity can alter the contour, so an unchanged lifelong result cannot be guaranteed.
