Abdominal liposuction
Correction of local fat deposits around the abdomen and waist.
The surgeon assesses subcutaneous fat distribution, skin and muscles. This helps determine whether liposuction is sufficient and whether to include the flanks. Surgery changes contours but is not a weight-loss method.

When surgery is considered
The surgeon checks whether fullness is specifically due to subcutaneous fat. This can persist after changes to diet and activity; its origin cannot be explained by sex, hormones or lifestyle alone.
What the surgeon assesses
- Lower or upper abdomenLocal deposits can change one area's contour even at a stable overall weight.
- Abdomen and flanksIf fullness extends to the waist, the whole area is assessed to plan a smooth contour.
- Skin conditionA substantial fold, stretched skin or diastasis may mean liposuction alone is insufficient.
What to know before deciding
Liposuction does not remove large amounts of excess skin or repair abdominal muscle separation. Abdominoplasty or another plan is then discussed.
There is no universal percentage of body weight that can be removed in one operation. The safe amount is determined after examination and risk assessment.
Vacuum contouring of the abdomen and flanks
Before marking, assessment establishes whether fullness is due to subcutaneous fat. A cannula cannot repair diastasis or remove a skin apron. Abdomen and flanks may share a plan, but the included areas must be agreed before defining scope and price.
The surgeon removes the planned amount of subcutaneous fat using a vacuum system and cannulas through small access incisions. Anaesthesia and observation depend on the number and size of areas.
When the plan is reconsidered
Abdominal liposuction is postponed during pregnancy, acute infection or inflammation, and until burns, cuts or an active abdominal rash have healed. Diabetes, a history of cancer and clotting disorders are assessed individually. If fullness is due to excess skin, diastasis or a hernia, another plan is discussed.
Fat removal may leave irregular contours, a more noticeable skin fold, fluid collections or changes in sensation. Bleeding, infection, thrombosis and anaesthesia complications are also discussed before surgery.
Abdominal compression and contour assessment
Swelling, bruising and discomfort are possible after surgery. The team explains incision care, compression and the examination date.
Return to work and sport depends on the extent of surgery. Hot baths, sauna use and intense activity are restricted for a period agreed with the surgeon. Contours become clearer as swelling subsides.
Questions to discuss
Will abdominal liposuction remove excess skin?
No. A cannula does not remove substantial excess skin. A skin apron may call for abdominoplasty instead of, or combined with, liposuction.
Are the flanks included in the abdominal liposuction price?
The price list has a combined abdomen-and-flanks entry. Specific areas and scope are agreed at consultation; the combined figure is not a separate abdomen-only price.
Does fat removal repair diastasis?
No. Liposuction treats subcutaneous fat, not separated muscles. Suspected diastasis needs separate assessment.
Price and consultation
The final extent and price are confirmed after an examination.
This is the abdomen and flanks entry in the price list. The price for abdominal liposuction alone is not listed.
Abdominal liposuction
Assess abdominal fat and skin to compare liposuction with abdominoplasty where relevant.
