Arm liposuction
Correction of local fat deposits in the upper arms.
During the examination, the surgeon determines how much fullness is due to fat and how much is due to skin or other tissue.

When surgery is considered
The main concern is local fat deposits that make the arms look disproportionate. The decision follows assessment of skin elasticity and a realistic extent of correction.
What the surgeon assesses
- Upper armsThe surgeon assesses upper-arm volume and symmetry on both sides.
- Near the armpitIf local fat extends here, this area is included in contour planning.
- Loose or excess skinSkin does not always contract sufficiently after fat removal; this is discussed separately.
What to know before deciding
Lipomas are separate masses rather than ordinary local deposits. They are diagnosed and treated separately.
Liposuction does not lift significant skin drooping. Brachioplasty may be discussed instead.
Removing upper-arm fat
Assessment compares both arms, areas near the armpits and skin elasticity. A separate mass such as a lipoma is investigated first. If a substantial skin fold would remain after fat removal, brachioplasty may need consideration.
Using the markings, a cannula through small arm access incisions removes subcutaneous fat with a vacuum system. Combined skin excision produces different scars and must be agreed as a separate part of surgery.
When the plan is reconsidered
Surgery is postponed for acute infection, inflammation, burns, cuts or a rash at access sites, and during pregnancy. Diabetes, a history of cancer, epilepsy, clotting disorders and substantial excess weight require individual assessment. Significant loose skin can change the choice to a lift.
Discuss possible differences between right and left contours, irregularities and skin contraction. Swelling, changes in sensation, fluid collections, bleeding and infection are possible.
Arm activity after liposuction
Swelling, bruising, soreness and temporary changes in sensation are possible. The surgeon determines whether arm compression is needed and for how long.
During healing, intense arm exercises are restricted and the area protected from injury. Return to work, sport and sun exposure is discussed at follow-up; contours emerge as swelling subsides.
Questions to discuss
How do I know whether I need arm liposuction or brachioplasty?
Examination distinguishes fat volume from excess skin. Liposuction reduces fat; brachioplasty removes a skin fold. They may be combined.
Can routine arm liposuction remove a lipoma?
A separate mass needs diagnosis first. A lipoma should not be treated automatically as an ordinary fat deposit in a contouring procedure.
Why is strength training restricted after arm contouring?
Tissue and access incisions need time to heal. Return to arm exercises depends on surgical scope and follow-up findings.
