Chin liposuction
Correction of subcutaneous fat beneath the chin and in the upper neck.
Fullness here depends on skin and anatomy as well as fat. The surgeon assesses the chin, neck and lower face together.

When surgery is considered
Surgery may be considered when local subcutaneous fat is the main cause of fullness and the skin can contract sufficiently. The appearance of a double chin alone does not determine the technique.
What the surgeon assesses
- Local fat beneath the chinThis can alter the transition from jaw to neck even at a stable weight.
- Upper neck contourThe surgeon determines whether changes are due to fat, skin or other tissue.
- Loose skin and jowlsThese are assessed separately: liposuction does not replace a lift or correct every cause of facial contour changes.
What to know before deciding
If excess skin, tissue position or another anatomical cause predominates, fat removal may not achieve the desired result.
Scar-free surgery or an exact time for swelling to disappear cannot be promised. The technique is chosen after an examination.
Small access incisions below the chin
Assessment covers the chin, upper neck and the ability of the skin to contract. In the classical technique, a solution prepares the tissue before cannula removal of fat through small access incisions. Local anaesthesia and possible sedation are discussed for the planned scope.
A fine cannula removes the agreed amount of subcutaneous fat, and access incisions are closed. Fat removal alone does not correct deeper neck structures or substantial excess skin.
When the plan is reconsidered
A rash, damaged chin skin, acute infection or a flare-up of illness require postponement; surgery is also postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Hypertension, heart and vascular conditions and clotting disorders are assessed before choosing anaesthesia. A separate lump or fullness from other neck tissues is investigated first.
Even moderate irregularity or asymmetry can be noticeable in a small area. Swelling, bruising, temporary changes in sensation, bleeding and infection are possible; individual risks depend on neck tissues and anaesthesia.
Dressings and swelling around the chin
Swelling, bruising, discomfort and temporary changes in sensation are possible. The surgeon determines the compression dressing schedule.
Return to work and usual activity depends on surgery and healing. Results are assessed gradually at follow-up examinations.
Questions to discuss
Can every double chin be treated with liposuction?
No. Fullness may involve skin and other anatomical structures as well as fat. The method is chosen after assessing the chin and neck.
Does chin liposuction replace a neck lift?
No. Removing subcutaneous fat does not address substantial excess skin or deeper structural changes. These may need another approach.
Can chin treatment use local anaesthesia?
Local anaesthesia and possible sedation are discussed beforehand. The choice depends on treatment scope and health assessment.
Price and consultation
The final extent and price are confirmed after an examination.
